“Oakcastle SB80 Xtra 200W 2.1 Channel Sound Bar for TV with External Subwoofer.”
Needing a dedicated sound system for my budget home cinema set up which involves a projector, I wanted sound to match the scale of the screen, with my 80″ projector screen I get total immersion in the movie.
Looking around Amazon there’s a plethora of soundbars but the innovative design of the SB80 which enables it to be split apart to form 2 satellite speakers which provides true stereo separation was the selling point, I initially was going to purchase the regular SB80 but upgraded my purchase to the SB80 Extra as the included subwoofer would be very welcome.
Here’s my pros and cons of the SB80 Extra soundbar.
Pros.
• The innovative design enabling to be split apart, that’s very cool.
• The floor stands for each speaker segment when split apart and the way the speakers tilt back slightly so they’re inline with your ears.
• The subwoofer design, very nice sculpted silhouette with a solid tactile feel, love the fabric grill, in all regards a very nice looking subwoofer.
Cons.
Just two,
1. The piano key black plastic that the actual soundbar is made from is a little cheap looking, and psychological it’s giving off a similar cheap plastic sound, but that’s just suggested the sound is good just the aesthetics of it, also the very familiar metal mesh for the grills, feels tinny to the touch probably affects the sound, it would be better if the soundbar had the same aesthetics as the subwoofer including the fabric grill.
• 2 The LED light display is a tad bit annoying, I can dim it but I wish I could switch it off, hopefully my peripheral vision will get used to it.
Despite these two points I’m very happy with my purchase.
